House style

‘Scandi’, ‘Mid-century modern’, ‘Country’… there are lots of buzzwords when it comes to decorating, and we’ve partnered up with the experts at Ideal Home to bring these trends to life. Take a tour of these editor-approved, super-chic spaces and get the lowdown on how to recreate them in your own pad

Why we love it
Those Nordic types don’t just have the monopoly on grisly crime dramas – they’re all over our Pinterest boards, too. Rooms filled with white, grey and washed-out pastels create a light and airy effect that’s perfect for the UK climate, and the look is warmed up with pale wood furniture, and cushions and throws for texture.

The Ideal Home team took a painted wood floor and pale walls as their starting point, slotting in more Scandi magic with ash-coloured tripod tables, leggy armchairs and abstract framed mirrors that maximise light.

Why we love it
With its squashy sofas, checked prints and rustic furniture, few interiors looks are as inviting as the country trend.

Tongue-and-groove panelling on the walls is shorthand for rural style, along with chunky wooden pieces such as the side table and cabinet chosen by the Ideal Home team. Add some deep armchairs, a sisal rug and wicker table lamps to dial up the cosy (adorable dog snoozing by the coffee table not included).

Hotel glam

Why we love it
If you want to pretend you’re on a glamorous, year-round European city break, this is the trend for you. We love the sultry, sophisticated feel created by stormy grey walls and gleaming metallic accessories.

Your bedroom will flourish under the hotel glam treatment, starting with the Ideal Home edit of sumptuous silk bedspreads and decadent satin and faux fur cushions, completed by a glamorous chandelier. Or create an elegant reading corner in your living room with a statement sunburst mirror, compact chair and sculptural reading light.

Mid-century modern

Why we love it
It’s a clean, unfussy look livened up with playful colour combinations and carefully considered furniture.

Though stripped-back armchairs and exposed lighting are mid-century staples, the décor is still full of warmth thanks to graphic prints and a bright palette. Our Ideal Home experts built the room’s copper and turquoise colour scheme around Very’s patchwork rug; you can do the same with a printed cushion or piece of art.
